Hans
Christian Andersen's Wonderful World - Denmark
At
long last, Denmark has opened its first Hans Christian Andersen
experience museum. The doors opened in Copenhagen on 1 June
2004 to the world's press, on time and in budget, with the
help of Rex Studios Ltd.
The first steps towards
Hans Christian Andersen's Wonderful World were taken
in 2000, when the Board of Directors of the Museum Limited Company
approached Rex Studios. Both parties worked very closely to
develop ideas for the museum. A model of the entire museum building
was built by Rex Studios to a scale of 1:25, and then Rex Studio's
specialised craftsmen and technicians began the production,
of: sculptures, 3D models, U/V effects, computer-controlled
technology, sound and lighting, costumes and scenic painting.
Rex Studios, spent
over a year developing these designs and producing the fabulous
galleries, where colourful and lifelike models, special effects
and fascinating three-dimensional decorations throw open the
doors to Hans Christian Andersen's life and his fantastic
fairy tale universe. The whole attraction was built in its
entirety in the UK and project managed as a 'turn-key' contract.
At Hans Christian
Andersen's Wonderful World, visitors are invited to enter
the poet's life and his fairy tales. At the entrance, visitors
are met with the sounds of town life and depictions of street
scenes from Odense and Copenhagen in the 1800's before being
taken back in time to Hans Christian Andersen's childhood
home and his study. Here, visitors listen to the poet himself
telling them about his life and they are introduced to his
many travels while the wind whispers and the seagulls screech.
Moving
on from the story of his life, visitors walk into the world
of his imagination where his most popular fairy tales unfold
before their eyes. They meet the Little Match Girl, who is freezing
cold and hungry, then see the Christmas table in rich people's
homes; they see the Emperor putting on his new clothes, and
visitors also meet the Swineherd, Thumbelina, the Steadfast
Tin Soldier and many more of Hans Christian Andersen's well-known
characters while listening to the fairy tales in which they
appear.
Truly
a magical experience!
